As an employer that offers work experience opportunities, 40-week placements and graduate jobs, OSL regularly collaborates with educational institutions across the region and beyond. A major part of this is a strong and active link with The University of Hull, working with its Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Careers and Employability Service. This partnership aims to guide students on their path toward a role in the energy sector, covering everything from CV writing tips to insight into the working day of a Chartered Engineer.

The courses at Hull University most suited to OSL are Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, with undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes that cover a multitude of specialist areas. The BEng and MEng courses are expertly designed to teach the theory and application of modern techniques, combined with an understanding of the evolving energy climate and the world of professional employment.

Provided with state-of-the-art equipment, Chemical Engineering students at Hull University learn within a brand new £500,000 laboratory. Designed to the latest specs, students develop their abilities in processes such as distillation, absorption, adsorption, filtration and reaction engineering, all of which tie-in closely with lectures and theoretical studies. Students also train at the Centre for Assessment of Technical Competency Humber (CATCH), giving them access to a realistic environment that is internationally recognised as a best-in-class facility.

Meanwhile, students of Mechanical Engineering follow a course designed in consultation with industry and professional bodies. Subject matter is wide-ranging and of a very high calibre, helping to create a new generation of engineers with the potential to solve problems and create inspired solutions. You also receive the exciting opportunity to join the Formula Student Team, which competes with other UK universities to create the best high-performance racing car.

These courses at The University of Hull are supported by the IChemE and IMechE, respectively. On the attainment of an accredited degree, a graduate has taken a major step toward becoming a Chartered Engineer.
