The Future of North Sea Oil & Gas

The Future of North Sea Oil & Gas

The Future of North Sea Oil & Gas is a high-profile Marketforce event, taking place at Le Méridien Piccadilly in London on Wednesday 2 December. Bringing together energy companies, investors and government representatives, its aim is to discuss ways to revitalise exploration and production within the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS).

OSL are an event sponsor, with Director Alastair Robertson giving a presentation on “Improving efficiency and reducing cost whilst getting to the target”, covering the following themes:

  • Reducing costs whilst targeting tight gas
  • Using Clever Thinking to explore new ways of approaching a problem
  • Challenging the main cost factors to bring overall projects back into a cost-effective territory

Alastair explains more about the goals of this involvement: “OSL wish to talk about the industry challenge of reducing profits from oil and gas. Operating companies have reduced the number of projects currently sanctioned for go ahead, but still need to ensure that future options are sustainable. Our teams have been working on a new approach to tight gas fields, using our philosophy of Clever Thinking to significantly reduce drilling costs whilst using a subsea separation technology to remove sand or proppant from the gas. The presentation should prove valuable for everyone in attendance.”

The wider event offers guests the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the UKCS and the progress that has been made since the Wood report. The programme includes talks from the regulatory perspective, advice from industry leaders on optimising efficiency at every level within your business, case studies on the best business models for late-life asset management and decommissioning, and a look into the impact the increasing number of private equity-backed players will have on the North Sea.

Alastair’s fellow speakers include Tom Tildesley, Director of Finance and Business Services at Maersk Oil; Christian Georgij Svendsen, Head of Strategy and Planning at Dong E&P UK; and Myrtle Dawes, Projects and Decommissioning Director at Centrica.

Head of Business Development Richard Drake said: “This is a top event in OSL’s calendar and a first-class method of disseminating our recent discoveries and new practices to a wide audience in the gas and oil sector.”
