Energy Institute Centenary celebrations arrive in Hull

Over the past few months, the Energy Institute has been celebrating its centenary with a roadshow travelling across the UK and overseas, and will be visiting the Humber region next week. EI Members as well as non-members are invited to join the celebrations to mark 100 years of delivering and promoting professionalism and good practice across the depth and breadth of the energy sector.

Jointly hosted by the EI Humber branch and Hull University, the roadshow will feature a keynote address by the EI’s Chief Executive, Louise Kingham OBE FEI, a look at the Humber’s energy scene, and short presentations on EI services such as the Young Professionals Network and the Energy Matrix, and advice for those seeking a career in the energy sector. The event will culminate with a drinks reception to celebrate the EI’s 100th birthday. Throughout the evening, there will be opportunities to speak with EI staff members and representatives of the local Humber branch on how the EI can support your professional development.

In addition to her role as Chief Executive of the EI, Louise Kingham OBE FEI holds a number of advisory and committee posts within external energy organisations, including the University of Birmingham’s Advisory Board for the Institute of Energy Research and Policy. In 2006, Louise won a Global Women in Energy Award in recognition of her achievements in leadership.

Hull engineering consultancy OSL will be in attendance to help young people recognise the opportunities available in the Humber region. Principal Director Alastair Robertson, an EI member, said: “Talking to students about working in engineering is mutually beneficial. Whilst they get an insight into careers in energy, we’re able to attract, train and retain budding engineers.”

Alastair will be joined by Recruitment Manager Sarah Taylor, delivering a workshop on excelling in the current employment market. OSL has invited local schools to the event to help students understand the benefits of EI membership and close the skill set gap in engineering. Also joining them will be Amy Felgate, who joined OSL in late 2013 having passed a rigorous selection process through the Arkwright Scholarships Trust, leading to a mentoring programme through OSL whilst studying at Hymers College.
