ANÁLISIS DE CAPAS DE PROTECCIÓN (LOPA)

BACKGROUND

The BP SGA team carried out LOPA assessments on their existing plant at the Dimlington onshore terminal. A team from OSL was asked to provide process engineering support to the BP team to carry out LOPA studies on parts of the plant and to provide process engineering solutions to some of the actions raised.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The BP Dimlington Terminal has been operating since 1988 and so has a significant amount of mature plant on site. The BP team was carrying out LOPA studies as part of an on-going site modernisation.

A recent HAZOP identified risks relating to high pressure process gas back-flowing to the glycol injection system and the associated expanding gas temperature potentially resulting in brittle fracture of pipework and/or vessels. OSL carried out a LOPA assessment of this and found that the addition of a secondary low cost check valve and procedural control provided the optimum solution.

Other process support addressed issues raised in LOPA studies carried out assessing possible excessive temperatures, pressures, slugging flow and inventory overflow.
